Emma Lawrence (née Fisher)

Everyone at METUPUK is incredibly saddened to hear that Emma Lawrence (née Fisher) has died at the age of 43.
Emma was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in 2016, and then in 2018 she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She was involved with METUPUK from the early days of her diagnosis, having connected with Jo Taylor after taking part in an ABCD Exercise Retreat.
As a website designer she shared her skills with METUPUK, and helped create a professional website long before we were a registered charity. She was also an integral part of the social media team, working on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts. Emma was closely involved Breast Cancer Awareness Month and used her skills to help create effective campaigns. She was also involved in supporting the Metastatic May campaign. With only one day in October for metastatic breast cancer, the May campaign was focused by Jo Taylor to be entirely separate from the sea of pink that October has become.
Emma carried on working as a web designer throughout most of her illness. Her real passions were found outdoors, and she embraced physical challenges. Despite experiencing kidney failure and managing nephrostomy tubes, she was determined not to be defined by her disease. She embarked on a climb of The Alps for Coppafeel last September. She also loved being on or beside the water, be it sailing in Devon with her parents, paddleboarding or just taking a walk on the beach. She adored being up a mountain in the snow and was an accomplished snowboarder.
Emma loved walking with her two dogs, Flash and Mel who always kept her on her toes and amused her with their antics. Pride of place was her family, in particular her husband Jim, who she recently married. Jim has been beside Emma and supporting her for many years. She also leaves a brother, John Fisher. Three years ago, John raised £2444 for METUPUK swimming 3.5 miles a day. We are very grateful to him for his generous fundraising.
Emma is the twelfth Darker Pink lady to die. As she wrote on her final Instagram post, “31 women die every day from metastatic breast cancer. #iamthe31.”
